The EV4EU Project was at the 2024 Road Transport Research Conference (RTR Conference) that took place in Brussels between February 5th and 7th as part of the Parallel Session “User-centric charging solutions”, a discussion on the importance of placing users at the center of the development of charging infrastructures, smart charging, and V2X.
The EV4EU project was represented by Hugo Morais, the project Coordinator at INESC ID and Matej Zajc from the University of Ljubljana. The presentation was an opportunity to showcase the solutions being developed under the project including technologies, and tools highly focused on users’ needs and concerns.
The session counted on presentations by two other Horizon Europe projects that are developing innovative solutions for charging technologies: the INCIT-EV project, focused on user centric charging solutions, was represented at the event by Miguel Zarzuela Cepero (EU Project Coordinator at CIRCE). SCALE presentation, an initiative centered on the advancement of smart charging infrastructures, was led by the project coordinator Baerte De Brey (Vice President at AVERE – The European Association for Electromobility).
After an overview of the three projects, the discussion was moderated by Guido Sachetto (DG RTD) and Christof Schernus (FEV), highlighting the importance of placing users at the center of future developments of charging infrastructures, smart charging and V2X.
“It is crucial to put users at the center of the development of the future charging infrastructure to facilitate smart charging and V2X as well as the massive adoption of these technologies”, highlights Hugo Morais.
The EV4EU project is developing several solutions centered around the genuine needs of users, as well as the required services to support the seamless operation of the distribution system. The integration of these two factors enables a faster adoption of smart charging and V2X technologies, creating a new source of income for EV users, while simultaneously averting high-cost and time-consuming investments in grid infrastructure.
Most of the proposed solutions will undergo testing and validation in four demonstrators designed to validate various services and quantify the added value for all stakeholders involved in electric mobility. This value introduces a new dimension in the global mobility sector by taking advantage of the periods when the vehicles are parked and not only when they are commuting.
The RTR Conference is a Brussels-based annual conference to present and discuss the latest developments of EU-funded research projects in the road transport sector, co-organized by the European Commission with 2Zeroemission, ERTRAC and CCAM Association. This 7th edition gathered over 6400 participants interested in learning about Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects’ results and expected impacts, and what the next research steps are in essential areas for road transport: Green Vehicles, Urban Mobility, Logistics, Intelligent Transport Systems, Safety, Automated Road Transport.
