EV4EU at 2025 IEEE PES General Meeting in Texas

The EV4EU Project crossed European borders to share its research work with a broader audience at the 2025 IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) General Meeting, held from July 27 to 31 in Austin, Texas.

As one of the premier international events in power engineering, the conference brought together practicing power engineers and academics from all over the world – including Hugo Morais, EV4EU Project Coordinator at INESC ID.

EV4EU was featured in the conference’s poster session, where Hugo Morais presented the work titled “Contextual prediction of electric vehicles charging using transfer learning” co-authored by Catarina Henriques and Tiago Pinto. The presentation helped raise awareness of the project’s ongoing contributions to electric mobility and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) integration, exploring the use of Transfer Learning (TL) to enhance EV charging demand forecasting and its potential to support smarter EV fleet and charging infrastructure management.

In addition to the poster session, Hugo Morais actively participated in IEEE Working Groups and Task Force discussions such as Intelligent Data Mining and Analys, Grid –Interactive Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure and Energy Forecasting and Analytics.

“Throughout the event, I had the chance to engage with peers and share what we’re doing in Portugal, mainly at INESC ID and Instituto Superior Técnico, in several fields related to electric mobility, DC grids, improvement of hosting capacity, and system stability of transmission grids. I also had the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with the IEEE community, while exploring future collaboration opportunities.”, said Hugo Morais.

Beyond EV4EU, INESC ID also showcased results from its participation in the ATE PRR project, funded under the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan, demonstrating the Institute’s strong contribution to the energy transition and sustainable mobility through applied research and innovation.

The next edition of the IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting will take place from 19–23 July 2026 in Montréal, Canada.will take place from 19–23 July 2026 in Montréal, Canada, and the Call for Papers will be open from October 6, 2025.
