The workshop “Energy Sustainable Transition: Sector Coupling and Digitalization in Europe,” organized by Nomisma Energia, brought together experts and key stakeholders online on December 17 to discuss how integrated energy systems and digital solutions can accelerate Europe’s transition toward sustainability.
Mattia Marinelli, Professor at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and an EV4EU researcher, represented EV4EU at the event alongside the AHEAD project. He actively contributed to the discussions by highlighting the role of these initiatives within the broader European energy transition landscape.
In his intervention, Marinelli presented the core activities of EV4EU, with particular emphasis on e-mobility, prosumer integration, and the development of advanced power and energy systems. His presentation illustrated how EV4EU supports sector coupling by linking electric mobility with smart grids and digital platforms, fostering more flexible, efficient, and user-centric energy systems. He also underscored the critical role of digitalization in managing distributed energy resources and enabling electric vehicles to act as active participants within the energy ecosystem.
Organized by Nomisma Energia, the workshop reinforced the importance of collaboration between research initiatives, industry, and policy actors to drive innovation and achieve Europe’s sustainable energy and decarbonization objectives.
The initiative was developed within the framework of the scientific and innovation activities of Spoke 7 – Smart Sector Integration of the NEST project (Network 4 Energy Sustainable Transition), one of Italy’s leading research programs focused on the sustainable transformation of the energy sector. Spoke 7 is dedicated to developing advanced tools and models to support sector coupling, grid flexibility, and the resilience of multi-carrier energy systems, in line with the European Union’s priorities.
