V2X management for carbon neutrality in Europe

Source Innovation News Network | Science, Research & Innovation News The Horizon Europe-funded EV4EU project led by INESC ID, Portugal, is developing a bottom-up and user-centric Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) management strategy to boost the use of electric vehicles (EVs) and aid more sustainable mobility. Electric mobility plays a vital role in the transition towards a more sustainable society. Replacing fossil-fuel-powered vehicles with electric alternatives can reduce carbon dioxide emissions and other transport-related pollutants, improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In line with climate agreements and the Sustainable Development Goals, the European Commission plans to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2035 to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. While policies may vary between countries, and exceptions are being considered for e-fuel vehicles as per the most recent events, the growing number of EV sales worldwide and the increasing pressure on car manufacturers to develop more efficient and environmentally-friendly vehicles are driving significant investment in EV technology. EV adoption rates vary worldwide Although EV adoption is increasing globally, their adoption rates vary across countries and continents, reflecting different needs regarding energy and power systems, charging infrastructure, Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) management strategies, and regulatory framework. In the literature, we can […]

Current and future Electric Vehicle user experience in Slovenia

The Electric Vehicles Management for carbon neutrality in Europe (EV4EU) project aims to develop management strategies that allow the massification of electric vehicles (EVs). However, the mass deployment of EVs presents several challenges, such as user adoption, among others. EV4EU intends to better understand the needs, behaviors, and concerns of EV users. To this end, EV4EU partner Smart Energy Lab is conducting interviews with key stakeholders and EV users from all participating countries (Slovenia, Denmark, Greece, and Portugal). Today, Smart Energy Lab held an EV4EU working session at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Electrical Engineering (UL), to dive into the current and future EV user experience in Slovenia.  EV4EU partners GEN-I, d.o.o., the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Smart Energy Lab, together with key drivers of e-mobility in Slovenia, Porsche Slovenia, and the Ministrstvo za infrastrukturo, went deep in the Slovenia reality: the average household has two cars, in which the secondary car is meant for long travels and carrying more luggage, thus consuming more battery. Considering the steep price of EV’s, for mass adoption then ‘one’ EV (all-in-one) must be able to address all commuting needs.  We learned that by 2026 there should be at least one electric charging […]

EV4EU launches today

Source INESC-ID. EV4EU launches today, 01 June 2022! With a duration of four years, EV4EU is funded by the European Union in 9-million euros through Horizon Europe, the new research and innovation programme for the period 2021-2027. Studies indicate that the massive use of electric vehicles will significantly contribute to the carbon neutrality goals set for 2050, as defined by the European Commission. However, the mass deployment of electric vehicles (EVs) still presents several challenges. To address these challenges, the “Electric Vehicles Management for carbon neutrality in Europe” (EV4EU) project will propose and implement user-centric Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) management strategies, creating the conditions for the mass deployment of electric vehicles. The proposed V2X management strategies will be tested at four demonstration sites — in Portugal on the island of São Miguel; in the Mesogia area in Greece; at Risø and Rønne, island of Bornholm, Denmark; and in Slovenia — across a consortium of sixteen entities from four European countries led by INESC-ID. To mark the project launch, we spoke with Hugo Morais — senior researcher at INESC-ID, Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) of Instituto Superior Técnico, and EV4EU project coordinator — about this new landmark project. What do you think is, currently, the […]
